Memory

Memory is the ability to acquire, store, and retrieve or reconstruct information.

Memory is central to our identities, learning and decision-making, and ability to navigate the world, but what do we know about memory? In this course, students learn about the types of memory (semantic, episodic, and procedural); important historic findings (for example, patient HM's contribution to understanding memory); memory errors (including false memory and the so-called memory wars); the phenomenon of highly superior autobiographical memory (HSAM); intrusive memory and its treatment (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy, or EMDR); amnesia; memory loss; and other memory-related topics.
