Health Care Advocacy and the Role of Cultural Diversity

This course serves as an introduction to issues related to the role cultural diversity plays in health care advocacy.

You will learn how characteristics such as race, ethnicity, gender, language preferences, religion and socioeconomic status can affect people’s access to health care services and examine the ethnic and cultural differences in health status among historically marginalized communities in the United States.

Additionally, this course will help students understand the influence of ethnicity, culture, race, and social determinants on concepts of health, illness, and disease patterns among diverse communities and examine strategies to assess an organization’s efforts to provide culturally competent care to diverse patients, and learn to become a more effective advocate for those populations.
