Sustainable Fashion

The global fashion and apparel industry has changed dramatically in the last 20 years to become an industry that today produces between four and ten percent of the world's greenhouse gases.

This course explores the historical, social, and environmental aspects of the global fashion industry and the current tools and methodologies available to improve it.

It enables students to understand the connection between sustainable development and the apparel industry; think critically about both the common and less discussed aspects of the apparel industry, including consumption, durability, and sustainable design; appreciate the complexities of the economic impacts of externalities both positive and negative on the industry; and explore the social and environmental impacts and the tools available to monitor and measure positive impact.
