Transforming Urban Mobility: Global Lessons in Livability, Social Equity, and Climate Resilience

This course draws upon the diverse experiences of international students to advance ideas for how streets can be the conduit of equitable mobility, improved health, dynamic public spaces, economic opportunity, and urban biodiversity, while addressing the challenges of our changing climate.

Drawing from Alison Sant's research for her book Streetlife: Transforming Our Largest Public Spaces into Places for People (Island Press), the course takes virtual field trips to New York City, exploring model streets in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens to meet with the people who have shaped them.

Through readings and presentations, the course surveys contemporary case studies in Paris, Barcelona, Tokyo, London, and Mexico City, helping students understand how streets are being reimagined and replicated throughout the world.
