DRAM E-33

Acting Alone: The Monologue and Storytelling

This dramatic arts course explores the rehearsal and performance of theatrical monologues and stories.

The ability to work on a monologue or a personal story is a foundational skill for all performers.

We explore various techniques to allow greater emotional, vocal, and physical expressiveness in both classical and contemporary material (as well as the student's own original material/story, if they choose).

We study specific approaches to help students act alone creatively, honestly, and spontaneously.

We focus on basic acting techniques like character development, scene analysis, incorporating the crucial elements of suspense and surprise, and exploring the fundamentals of effective storytelling through performance.
