The Producer’s Chair: How Movies and TV Get Made

When a movie wins Best Picture, the Oscar goes to the producer.

Why? What does a producer actually do? Often behind the scenes, producers guide projects from the first glimmer of an idea through financing, production, and distribution before they ultimately reach the screen.

Led by a veteran screenwriter and a working producer currently producing the second installment of HBO’s Task , this course offers a real-time look at film and TV production.

Through examples from current and past productions, students will meet several working producers and film and television insiders while exploring everything from executive and line producing to optioning material, securing partners, and solving on-set problems (even wrangling birds) to keep productions moving.

Whether viewers, aspiring creators, or simply curious about the industry, students will gain an insider’s understanding of what it takes to make films and television and the decisive role producers play in bringing them to life.

The course includes guest speakers from across the film and TV industry.
