Sports Nutrition

Coordinating nutrition with exercise dramatically improves weight loss, health (including immune strength), and fitness.

This course examines how nutrition for performance addresses delaying fatigue, driving adaptation, and speeding recovery.

Delaying fatigue requires hydration and fuel supply, whereas speeding recovery demands supporting protein production and healing.

Adaptation (the body’s ability to improve through changes in gene expression) is also highly influenced by nutrition.

For example, protein and carbohydrate after exercise are critical to stimulating our DNA to initiate muscle healing, while unsaturated fats and antioxidants in recovery meals support fat burning and endurance.

This course reviews the science of sports nutrition and will guide you in applying this information to your sports nutrition program.

The foundations of your program are separated into what you consume during and right after exercise (calories, fluids, electrolytes) and throughout the rest of your day (meals, snacks, hydration).

By covering theory and application, the course will be equally relevant to those interested in science and improving exercise results.

No scientific background is required; however, this course is based on an examination and discussion of scientific findings relevant to the course topic, with homework focused on application.
