Introduction to Landscape Drawing

Observing the world closely is the first step to capturing it on paper.

This hands-on course introduces the fundamentals of observational drawing with a focus on both natural and built landscapes.

We’ll begin with core techniques—one- and two-point perspective, line, form, and composition—then use short exercises to sharpen your eye for light, shadow, and tonal value.

As you sketch neighborhood scenes, urban streets, and outdoor environments, you’ll learn to translate what you see into expressive drawings that balance accuracy and personal style.

Along the way, we’ll look at masterworks by artists such as Albrecht Dürer, M.C.

Escher, and Leonardo da Vinci for lessons in shading, perspective, and composition.

Class sessions combine short lectures, guided practice, and discussion, giving you both a solid technical foundation and the confidence to approach any landscape drawing project.

Students must purchase their own art supplies for this course, the cost of which will depend on students’ individual needs.
