Ignite Your Imagination: A Generative Course

Whether you’ve long meant to make time for writing in your life or have only recently begun considering it, this course will offer a supportive environment where we’ll set perfectionism aside and focus on writing without constraining expectations.

You’ll receive a prompt via email each weekday and 2–3 more in our weekly class Zoom meetings, each designed to cue up your imagination’s slideshow of arresting imagery and memorable situations and characters—whether you’re writing poetry, fiction, or nonfiction.

We’ll also read an eclectic range of published work by writers including Dean Young, Edward P.

Jones, Brian Doyle, and Elizabeth McKenzie: poems, flash fiction and nonfiction, excerpts from longer works, and found texts chosen for their vibrancy, singularity, and emotional charge.

Our goal each week will be to embrace our rogue creative impulses—whether they’re dramatic, comedic, or somewhere in between—to unleash surprising and inevitable words on the page.

Because of the high enrollment capacity, students will not receive instructor feedback on daily writing posts.

Sections WA and WB of “Ignite Your Imagination: A Generative Course” share the same objective but use different daily prompts.

Students may register for Section WA, Section WB , or both.
