This test measures a high school student's academic readiness for college and provides colleges with a national benchmark that can be used to compare all applicants.

In addition, a competitive ACT score gives the student more options in the college application process, such as earning scholarship awards and tuition fellowships.

The new enhanced ACT comprises 3 mandatory sections (English, Math, Reading) and 2 optional sections (Science and Writing).

The total test time for the mandatory sections is approximately 2 hours.

The Science section gives students an advantage when applying for STEM majors while other majors may require an essay writing score.

All test questions are multiple-choice, and both paper and digital formats are available.
