Introductory Virology
This course covers the biological properties of bacterial and animal viruses, replication, methods of detection, interactions with host cells, and multicellular hosts.
Topics provide a general overview of the viral world and its diversity.
The main focus will be on comparing the different viral taxa, especially their replication mechanisms; interactions with host cell/organisms; and their role as etiological agents of epidemic diseases, cancer and heart conditions.
Their use as molecular tools will also be discussed.
Transferable for UC credit.
