Cybersecurity Lab (Defensive Tools)

This hands‑on course introduces foundational defensive security strategies and the practical tools used to protect modern computing environments.

Students will learn to configure and manage virtualized lab environments, implement firewalls and web servers, emulate routers, deploy vulnerability scanners, and work with intrusion detection and prevention systems.

The course also examines common attack methodologies to help learners understand how defensive controls mitigate real‑world threats.

Through guided exercises, students will identify current cyber threats, assess the risks associated with each, and select appropriate security controls and tools to manage those risks.

Learners will build and customize their own lab environments to practice implementing defensive technologies across multiple layers of an infrastructure.

By the end of the course, students will be able to define and apply the principles of defense‑in‑depth, map defensive tools to each layer of a security architecture, and construct a functional cybersecurity test environment to practice identifying, protecting against, detecting, responding to, and recovering from security incidents.
