Reading Euclid’s Elements in Greek

Using the online Perseus database of classical texts, students learn a subset of ancient Greek that is sufficient to read the theorems and proofs in Euclid's Elements , Books 1-4.

The course also explores, in English, non-Euclidean geometry and modern alternatives to Euclid's five postulates.

Class time is divided roughly equally between mathematics and language.
