Translational Biotechnology: Strategy, Regulation, and Entrepreneurial Pathways

This course offers a practical, end-to-end framework for transforming biotechnology discoveries into viable commercial ventures.

Students learn how to identify unmet medical needs, develop intellectual property strategies, form and structure biotechnology start-ups, and raise non-dilutive and early-stage capital.

Through real-world case studies and interactive workshops, the course explores patenting strategy, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulatory designations such as Orphan Drug and Rare Pediatric Disease, and creative resource management—including how to leverage contract research, freelancers, and open-source tools for scientific and business development.

Emphasis is placed on bridging science, law, and entrepreneurship to help students design commercially and scientifically sound development plans that attract funding and partnerships.
