ENGL S-292

Taylor Swift and Her World

Taylor Swift has become the world's most famous pop star for many reasons, but first and last through her songwriting.

We look at her career, life, albums and songs, from all her eras (even the Showgirl era) as literary creations.

We consider songs (as opposed to poems, novels, or movies) more generally, as an art form in their own right.

We read novels, poems, and essays by other, older creators—Wllla Cather, Alexander Pope, Daphne du Maurier, James Weldon Johnson, and more—that shed light on Swift's work, including a few that she has certainly read.
