Freedom as a Practice
What does freedom mean? And, if meaning is created through action, how is freedom practiced? This course explores America's most cherished ideal—freedom—as it has manifest in practice.
Students examine major forms of freedom practice—from privacy to speech, from domination to self-creation, and from individual movement to collective movement—and have an opportunity to research freedom fighters at the Schlesinger Library to grasp not only the historical practice of freedom but to interpret that history to render an understanding of one's own freedom practice, today.
