Introduction to the Ancient Roman World

This course serves as a first encounter to the history, culture, and heritage of the Romans and their world.

The course focuses on the period from the foundations of Rome in the archaic period down to the Arab conquest of the eastern Mediterranean and North Africa in the seventh century, CE.

Spanning over a millennium, this course offers a chronological survey of the political, economic, and cultural developments that predominated in the Mediterranean during this time, while also offering introduction to thematic introduction to topics such as religion, daily life, languages, education, economy, and material culture.
